Is it wrong to release animals caught by my Cat?
My cat bought in a baby Stoat last night. She quickly released it inside the Lounge. It took us 30mins to catch it as it was hiding under the TV cabinet. The cat had lost interest in that time. We realeased it back outside in a grassy area.
We noticed that it was unharmed by the cat and hope to think that it wasn’t too stressed as we were not chasing it around the room.
I’m not sure how people feel in general about this. I think that I read somewhere that Stoats/Ferrets are a pest in this country.
Do you think I was wrong to rescue and release it?
Cats will always bring you “presents” they have caught, I thnk they believe that we are part of their pack and they are feeding us a nice treat. My 17yr old cat who has lost her canines do to age, will always bring us these beautiful striped grasshoppers, cicadas, and butterflys. Usually they are unharmed, so we just distract her with praise and then toss the prey where she can’t see it anymore. If they are a pest to your home, then your cat is doing some pest management, so let it take down the population. I heard on a show on PBS once that cats are the worlds most deadly predators because of all the different species of things that they kill and control the population of around their homes. So, kudos to the cats!
