Who agrees that this is just a good way for parents to be lazy and easy way for kids to not learn the word NO?
I can understand the safety plugs for electrical outlets and the plastic cabinet latches to keep the toddlers from getting to poisons, but using the latches for every cabinet, the child proof door knob protectors, the on off safety lock, and safety bracket (that keeps children from climbing on things). These things to me are just an easy way for parents to sit on their butts and not have to teach their children the word ‘NO’. I do understand that we need to child proof somethings in our home to keep them from being badly injured and from getting very sick, but we also have to do our jobs as parents and teach our children what they are not allowed to get into and what they are allowed to get into. We also have the job as parents to keep an eye on our children, which means getting up off our bottoms and sometimes chasing them around. Sure it can be work and exhausting, but this is th only real way a child can learn the words ‘YES’ and ‘NO’!!

The only things childproofed in our house are the electrical plugs and the one cabinet that has all the cleansers in it (just in case). My daughter’s 22 months, and we’ve never had gates up at the stairs, or latched any other doors/cabinets. As soon as she started becoming mobile she quickly learned her boundaries. The only time we’ve had a gate up at her door was when we first had her in her toddler bed at 14 months old, but it was only up for a week. As soon as she wakes up now, she goes straight to our bedroom to wake me up. It’s funny because when she sees the cat climbing the kitchen counters she’ll run in and scream “NO KITTY!”
