JEEPSTERS: Should I be worried that my hood bounces on my 01′ Jeep Wrangler???
I purchased my 01′ Wrangler used and the prior owner added some nice features… lots of chrome and chunky tires. I LOVE IT! However, the chrome hood latches have that bungee material holding them down and it causes my hood to wobble at higher speeds. It is rather unsettling when I am driving on the hwy. and I see my hood wanting to take flight. I know there is a catch under the hood but I don’t really trust that 100%. I also have chrome over the grill vents that prevent me from installing a hood lock [which would most likely help]. Is it possible that I could tighten the catch under the hood? Anyone have any other suggestions … other than returning to the factory hood latches.

Nothing to be concerned about. Even the OE hood latches allow the hood to bounce a little. Its a Jeep thing.
Back in ’99 when I first took my new TJ out on the highway, I had to pull over to make sure the hood was latched. Sure enough, it was.
If you really want to get rid of it, you can install solid locks to replace the rubber latches. I’ll give you a link. Otherwise, don’t worry about the hood flying into your face…it ain’t going nowhere.
