What flooring material would look best in my ranch style house in the country?
Our home is a fixer upper. It’s a basement ranch, not a farmstead or anything like that, but I want to reflect a nostalgic farmhouse feel. I have some antiques, pictures and such.
My husband wants a stone look tile. I think it may be too Mediterranean.
Other flooring in the house is carpet and hardwood. There is hardwood in the dining room, but it wouldn’t look good with the wood cabinets in my kitchen. My appliances are stainless. Cabinet hardware is antiqued bronze, looks almost black.
I have a few decorative items that are black and white.
I have been stuck on this for a while.

Go with the tile floor. Like a stone-look ceramic tile (real stone floors are either too glossy and slippery, or too porous and get dirty easy). Go with an 18-inch tile and have them installed at a 45-degree angle instead of straight. This makes a room look bigger and it’s a cool effect. Also, don’t worry about mixing woods so much (floor and cabinets). It’s not that big a deal and can actually be a good look, especially in a country style house.
