My puppy chewed on the corner of my kitchen cabinet. How can I fix it?
The dog chewed on the base of the cabinet (not the doors) and its something I can’t replace (appears to be one large section of wood). He chewed the finish off and took out a few centimeters of the wood with it.
Depending on how much wood he actually removed, you have a couple of options. If it’s just roughed up with tooth marks & very little of the wood is actually missing, you can sand it smooth & restain it. (take one of the doors into a hardware store so you can match the color of stain.) Just wipe the stain on with a rag or paint brush until it matches. I t may take several applications to make it dark enough, depending on the color.
If it’s really bad, you can try wood putty to build it up somewhat. The problem is that wood filler generally doesn’t stain the same as the actual wood. You might be able to find a wood filler that is already a similar color. There is also “color putty”, which comes in a small bottle in a wide variety of colors. It’s made to fill nail holes in finished cabinets, but will also fill tooth marks with no problem. You just apply it with your finger, then wipe off the excess with a rag. It is available at most lumber yards or hardware stores. Your best bet is probably to sand & stain it, then use color putty to fill the tooth marks.Good luck!
